ATEX-approved flameless venting devices
for gas explosions
Q-Rohr fameless venting devices are now
ATEX certifed for gas explosions in dual-fuel
and gas engines, as well as different types of
organic or metal dusts.
Models are for use anywhere gas-air mixtures might cause an explosion. They comprise an explosion vent with burst indicator
plus stainless steel mesh flter.
In case of an explosion, the explosion vent
opens, the inserted special mesh flter effciently cools down
fames of the explosion, and reduces any escaping pressure to a
safe minimum. This “ideally protects” the system and environment, declares the manufacturer.

New pneumatic lifts
New Liftman Fold pneumatic lifts
are for offshore installations, prevailing ATEX environments on platforms, as well as onshore gas and oil
Driven exclusively by compressed
air, models give operators quick access for maintenance or other work
where scaffolds have been used in the past.
Studies from a pilot project with Statoil show a signifcant
cost saving per unit plus reduced time spent on each maintenance task. This is achieved with less need for setting up required scaffolds and completing jobs in less time — with fewer
workers, notes Liftman Fold’s manufacturer.
The lifts are approved and certifed by TÜV, UL, and ATEX
compliant from DNV.

New approach for X-ray weld inspection of
A completely new setup incorporates new high-tech materials for digital fat panels and
is announced as a new approach for pipeline segment
X-ray weld inspections.
Instead of using a massive steel boom, a carbon fber tube
is employed. Weight of the tube is less than 100 kg, which
leads to a very stable and massive lifting device. This also allows cooling systems to operate on the inside.
The new approach is declared to deliver a lighter setup, longer detector lifetime, and faster operation principle.

Marginal, late-life fields-expanding
Subsea Control Modules are
newly developed “to extend
life of marginal and late-life
SCM includes a subsea
electronic module and master
control station “to bring a new dimension to combatting obso-
lescence as pressure mounts to extract more life from existing
equipment, particularly in the reducing North Sea sector.”
Among SCM benefts are a high level of confgurability while
maintaining reduced complexity by using commercial off-the-
shelf hardware where available. Recent work in decommission-
ing has also highlighted a need for pre-abandonment monitor-
ing systems, it’s noted.
