MGate W5108 & W5208 industrial Ethernet gateways are announced as “the frst to combine serial, Modbus RTU/ASCII/ TCP, DNP3, and Ethermet communication over 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi networks.” On exhibit at OTC, they’re designed to fex-ibly simplify industrial devices connection over Wi-Fi where previously they would have required multiple devices.

Fully electric-drive flexible cable and pipe
lay system

In partnership with INNOVO, this company announces “the frst fully electric-drive fexible cable and pipe lay system

for rental.” It combines electric tensioner with electric reel drive for greater control with better accuracy and precision than traditional hydraulic drives. The wider collaboration between the frms will see full back-deck equipment packages for sale and rental to oil, gas, or offshore wind.

My Daily Work Place

This photo was taken aboard the HOS Achiever in July of 2014 by Robert Callaway, Wood Group Kenny, as he performed pre-commissioning work on Tubular Bells.

From July to November Callaway assisted Hess, Williams,
and Weatherford in the leak testing of various process systems
aboard the platform. In his photo contest description, Cal-
laway notes he “continually strives to seek out and develop
integrity management strategies and execute inspections not
only on Tubular Bells, but across his team’s work scope.”
Callaway, 31, is employed with Wood Group Kenny where
he has been contracted to Hess Corporation for three years
as part of their topsides integrity management group. He de-
clares his role
has not only
flourished
into a fulfll-
ing career
but has given
him the op-
portunity to
continue his
education to-
ward earning
a mechanical
engineering
degree at The University of Houston (GO COOGS!).

After a decade of feld experience as an operator, Callaway credits his line manager Cory Sutherland for recognizing his potential and allowing him to get his foot in the door on the corporate level.
