Videolaryngoscopy Field Trial: A Better Mousetrap?
Kevin Seaman, MD, FACEP
What do we know about airway management in the 21st century?
Research points to the pitfalls: not enough clinical intubation
experience, interruption of chest compressions, over-ventilation. What
should we do with the airway given the challenges we face today?
The presentation will describe a suburban Fire-based 911 system, their
airway performance and a feld trial of videolaryngoscopy. Results
and videos of airway attempts will be shared. Lessons learned will be
highlighted. Based upon the experience, recommendations will be
made regarding airway management in common clinical scenarios
that will address the pitfalls and bring prehospital airway management
into an evidence-based realm.
