Shell’s upcoming deep-water project, Stones, in the Gulf of Mexico uses an FPSO with a disconnectable turret as a host facility. In case
of severe hurricanes, the FPSO will disconnect and move to a safe location. Once the conditions are safe, the FPSO will reconnect and
resume production. This presentation will give an overview of the Stones project and the FPSO host facility with the disconnectable turret.
Dr. Akhil Agarwal is the Stones facilities focal point for the host facility FPSO Turitella. He has worked for Shell for eight years in different
roles ranging from DS Technical consulting, R&D, Operation’s support, and major project start-up and commissioning technical support.
Prior to Shell, Dr. Agarwal got his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from GA Tech, and his main expertise is in the area of heat transfer.

John Greeves is the Technical Director and a shareholder of the Versabar Group of Companies. He holds a PhD in civil/structural
engineering and is a UK registered chartered engineer. He has worked in the oil and gas industry for over 25 years including 10 years for
Shell International in a variety of positions from design engineer to project manager on projects around the world. He currently provides
oversight and business guidance in conjunction with the company’s model of seeking innovative solutions and technical innovations for
energy sector challenges both domestically and internationally.
PLUG REMEDIATION ON AN OFFSHORE FACILITY
George Bonin, Production Superintendent, Petrobras
The presentation will discuss the methods and constraints that were used to unplug a pig that was lodged in a 6-inch 15k piggable loop
pipeline for more than two years.
George Bonin, Production Superintendent, Petrobras was the on-location person in charge of the operation during the time of remediation
of the plug of this fowline.
