Satyen Mukherjee, Chief Scientist and Senior Director, Philips Research Norh America
Satyen Mukherjee is the Chief Scientist and Senior Director at Philips Research North America. He previously headed Microelectronic
Devices, Circuits and Systems at Philips Research, where he was responsible for research on power electronics, integrated circuit
design in applications such as lighting control systems, electronic ballasts for fuorescent lighting, fat panel displays and wireless
communications. He has initiated collaborations with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to address challenges in integrated
controls and energy simulation in buildings and is serving as a PI for two DOD funded demonstration projects on indoor and outdoor
lighting. He is also involved in a DoE funded research project on multivariate integrated controls for net zero energy buildings and
serves as the chairman of Continental Automated Building Association (CABA). Before joining Philips Research, Dr. Mukherjee worked
at intel, and Exel Microelectronics. He holds over 23 patents and has published over 50 papers.
Rick Freeman, General Manager - Lighting Intelligent Devices, GE
As a General Manager Rick Freeman sets the vision for GE Lighting Solutions encompassing intelligent drivers, controls, networks,
software and analytics. He launched the LightGrid Roadway Lighting Control System. As CTO in the same division he consolidated
GE Fanuc Controls with Embedded businesses. Before GE Lighting he was at GE Healthcare and Healthcare Services. Prior to
joining GE he was VP Technology at the venture backed start up Care Monitor and Director Of Engineering at Siemens Medical
Sajol Ghoshal, Business Unit Manager, Advanced Platform Products, AMS Taos
Mr. Ghoshal is currently developing next generation lighting systems that can autonomously respond to environmental changes
to adapt their intensity and color to enable energy savings and lighting for better health and comfort. Prior to joining AMS-TAOS,
he co-founded Akros Silicon, system-level green power solutions provider through the integration of digital power and Ethernet
connectivity. Prior positions include COO at Calpont Corp, and VP of Engineering at Agere Inc. He started his career at Intel. Mr.
Ghoshal has an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and holds over 20 patents.
Dan Ryan, Co-founder & CEO, Bytelight
Dan Ryan is the Co-Founder and CEO of ByteLight, a Boston-based start-up that provides indoor location lighting-based software.
With a background in electrical/computer engineering, he has worked in a variety of roles ranging from software engineering,
technical team leadership, intellectual property strategy, sales, and marketing. Dan is a graduate of Boston University, where he
received a BS summa cum laude in Electrical Engineering.
Pekka Hakkarainen, Vice President, Lutron Electronics
Dr. Pekka Hakkarainen is Vice President at Lutron Electronics, working in Government and Industry Relations, including Codes
and Standards activities. He was the Chair of the Lighting Systems Division of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association
(NEMA), is a member of the ASHRAE 90.1 Committee, and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. He has also
served on two committees for the National Research Council. Pekka received a BA/MA degree from Cambridge University, England
and a PhD from MIT. He holds seven U.S. patents.
